About RAL Technology

RAL Technology was formed in 2009 when I left my job as Stress Engineer in Aerospace to follow my passion: Fast Bikes. With plenty of design, development and validation experience, I set up the business along with a manufacturing workshop, which is currently engaged in some radical product development. We are now manufacturing and selling those products which have already made it through development.

About me

In 1984 I won a scholarship to study Engineering at Cambridge University. My final year papers - my specialities - were Stress Analysis, Mechanical Power Transmission, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and Engines. My final year project was about separation and reattachment of boundary layers.

Since graduating, I have spent over 20 years in mechanical engineering and fluid mechanics positions: 3 years designing pumps, 10 years designing braking systems and 8 years in the aerospace industry, designing aerial delivery systems (think Special Forces throwing vehicles, boats and kit out the back of aircraft in flight) . In 2009 I realised that I could make a business from designing and building some of the fastest bikes in the world.

When I moved to Merseyside in the early 90's, I joined the Birkenhead Victoria Cycle Club. I was Club Captain and Club Secretary for a few years and also set new club records at all distances from 10 to 100 miles. Despite moving away from the area, I maintain my ties with the BVCC 2011. Since 2012, I have been a member of Colchester Rovers CC.
